The Other Sword

The Other Sword is an Elric short story by Robert Weinberg from the Tales of the White Wolf anthology. It takes place little more than a month after Elric, Moonglum, and Zarozinia first arrived in Karlaak together, and three weeks after Elric's wedding. Elric's wedded bliss is broken when he becomes haunted by questions about how Yyrkoon regained Mournblade. After a distraught Zarozinia summons Moonglum for help, Elric sends him on a sort of dreamquest to uncover the truth. Moonglum discovers that Arioch had entranced Elric to retrieve Mournblade from the Pulsing Cavern for Yyrkoon in order to lead the prince back on the path towards his destiny, then made him forget that he did. But rather than burden Elric with this painful truth, Moonglum tells Elric that his cousin retrieved the blade from the cavern himself so he and his wife can live in blissful ignorance of that fact. He leaves Karlaak content that he did the right thing.
