The Jewel in the Skull
The Black Jewel is a sorcerous jewel embedded into Duke Dorian Hawkmoon's skull. It is a manifestation of the Black Sword and therefore an Object of Power. After the final battle between the company of the Runestaff and the Beast Men of Granbretan, Countess Flana had Baron Kalan remove the jewel from Hawkmoon's skull. In Book 3 of The Quest for Tanelorn, an entity calling itself Sword identified the jewel as one of its two possible vessels, the other being Black Swords like Stormbringer and the Cold Sword. It was ultimately destroyed with the Runestaff by Dorian and Erekosë in their final battle for the Cosmic Balance at Tanelorn. Another version of the Jewel may possibly exist following a similar battle in The White Wolf's Son in which Dorian was killed instead.
